Privacy policy

Yachtzee is a private, invite-only app for families and crews who share a yacht. It is not a social network and not a marketplace: the only people who can ever see your information are people on your boat, and only what their role allows.
What we collect
- Account & profile — your name, email address, optional phone number, who you are aboard (owner, yachtie or crew), and optional details you choose to add (birthday, city, routines, favourite activities, meal preferences).
- Health & dietary details (optional) — food allergies, medical conditions, mobility needs and an emergency contact, if you choose to provide them. They exist so the crew can keep everyone aboard safe and fed. They are visible only to you and to the operating household of a yacht you share (owner, captain, crew) — never to fellow guests, never to other boats.
- Location— used while the app is open to show weather, nearby anchorages and landmarks. Your personal location is never stored or shared; the yacht's charted position comes from its AIS transponder, not from anyone's phone. There is no background tracking.
- Camera & photos (optional) — the camera is used only when you choose to scan a trip invite QR code or photograph ownership documents (yacht title, passport) for transponder verification; the photo library only when you pick those documents from it. Verification documents are stored in a private bucket readable only by you and our reviewers, and are used solely to verify ownership.
- What you do in the app — trips, bookings, meal and concierge requests, grocery lists, log entries and similar content you create, shared with your boat according to your role.
How it is stored
Data lives in a managed Postgres database (Supabase) protected by row-level security — access rules are enforced in the database itself, beneath the app. Traffic is encrypted in transit, and on your phone the sign-in session is encrypted with a key held in the device's secure keychain.
What we never do
- No selling or sharing of your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- No ads, no third-party tracking or analytics SDKs.
- No public profiles — visibility is always "we share a yacht".
Third-party services
Weather comes from Open-Meteo and nearby landmarks from OpenStreetMap — those requests carry coordinates only, never your identity. Currency rates come from frankfurter.app (no personal data at all). If you sign in with Apple or Google, they confirm your email to us; we receive nothing else from them.
Deleting your account
Open My profile → Delete account in the app, or — without the app — sign in at yachtzee.app/app/manage/profile and use Delete account there. Either way it permanently removes your profile, health details and yacht memberships. Shared records you created for others (trips, log entries) remain with the boat, with your name detached. You can also email us to request deletion.
